COLLABO – “What’s Behind The Girl’s Club” Part 2
April’s Collabo continues with Part 2 to Fall ’08 introspective panel of female movers and shakers in the urban entertainment industry
All-Female Panel will engage the audience of enthusiasts and tastemakers with valuable insight

Chicago – After the success of “What Behind The Girl’s Club” this past November of 2008, many things have stayed the same while a lot has changed during these difficult times. As the world experiences its own evolution, there still remains a significant presence of women who lead, execute and implement things in front and behind the scenes of some of today’s biggest and growing companies.

Their personal journey isn’t one without a testimony as they still have the challenges of being in a male-dominated industry. From the world of radio to even music, these women have created opportunities as entrepreneurs, dealmakers and still find time for balance with family and friends.

Collabo is a music industry mixer for all aspiring and established artists which is the brainchild of Mary Datcher, President of On The Streets Promotions and Marketing. Collabo comes from the word collaborate, which means, “to work jointly with others especially in an intellectual endeavor”.

This monthly event features industry professional that are part of Chicago’s music scene as well as informative seminars conducted by a team of panelists. This installment of Collabo will be hosted this Tuesday April 21st at The Victor Hotel from 7pm-11pm at 311 N Sangamon Ave. Khris ‘First Lady’ Raye of Radio One WTLC-FM (Indianapolis) and Gospel clustermate WTLC-AM (1310 the Light) will be the moderator for April’s Collabo.

"This month's 'Collabo' raises the bar in presenting extraordinary women and how they empower the industry with their knowledge, positive energy and insight. Chicago encompasses many people that come from different 'walks of life' and we are proud to provide a platform to allow folks to network with each outside their comfort zone. 'Collabo' has become that conduit for the music and entertainment industry here," says Mary Datcher founder of Collabo.

On the Streets Promotions and Marketing and Chicago Collabo is honored to be announce that Global Mixx will be gearing up with a series of events leading up to the 5th year anniversary Back II Basics that will be held from October 2nd-4th, 2009 in Chicago. Tyra Martin - Morning Show Producer WGN-TV Superstation (Chicago) - Weekend trips to L.A. and New York, a couple of Emmy nominations, celebrity numbers in her cell phone... It's a glamorous life, all lived on a few hours of sleep and Lean Cuisine frozen dinners.

Tyra Martin wakes up at about 3am, the second alarm, sitting on a table in the hallway goes off a half-hour later. She counts on the cold hardwood in her apartment to wake her up… because while her own will isn't enough to get her out of the bed, it's helped keep her going during a career of days that start out weary eyed but leave her satisfied by the time she returns often late at night.

After having lots of fun at Clark Atlanta University, picking up a book or two at Eastern Illinois University and finally getting serious about school at Illinois' Governor's State University, Tyra took the scenic route to television.

But it was telling and retelling all the crazy stories from those college days that prepared her to tell other people's stories as her first job in television… a news writer for WGN.

The early mornings, long days and years eating microwave meals while half asleep have paid off.

Since starting out as an intern over a decade ago, Tyra's become one of the senior segment producers for WGN's acclaimed Morning News. As the Entertainment Producer she works closely with critic and reporter Dean Richards and books many of the celebrity guests that appear on the show. As a respected member of the film industry's television press core, she travels to bring Chicago viewers candid conversations with their favorite stars.

Marlo-Martin Jackson– Double M Entertainment and Kedar Entertainment/ Radio personality on Gospel radio WCCD-FM (Cleveland) - A woman of many talents with over 15 years of experience and a knack for breaking records, Marlo Martin-Jackson and her company, Double M Entertainment, is the best at creating and executing successful promotions and marketing campaigns.

Hailing from Hartford, CT., Marlo started as an intern for the illustrious, Bill Stephany at StepSun Records. People were willing to take more chances with new records.” Her love of the job and the music earned her another quick step promotion. Within the year her duties expanded to include National Mix Show, then National Director of Street Promotions and Marketing.

Some of the major records she was responsible for breaking in those early days, “Where My Homies” by Ill & Al Scratch and Missy Elliott's breakthrough record with Gina Thompson, “The Things You Do”. During this time she also snagged two awards from Gavin Magazine, in 1996 Promotions Person of the Year and Rap Woman of the Year in 1999.

Some of Double M's satisfied clients include: DJ G-Spot, Koch Entertainment, Kedar Entertainment, Legacy Recordings/SONY, Atlantic Records, Tommy Boy Records, Red Level Entertainment, Thrasher Entertainment, Leap Ov Faith Promotions, JCOR Records, Warner Brothers, Virgin Records, MCA Records, Motown Records, Universal Records, Dee Money Entertainment, J Jones Entertainment, Big Willie Promotions, Cuzzo Music, Sanctuary Records, Empire Visual Entertainment, Concord Records, Bazz Music, Burnin' Hot Entertainment, GAD Entertainment, Boone Farm Promotions, Lost Land Entertainment, Hillbilly Records, Urban Law Management, Street Law Records, Uncle Sam, Quanie Cash Films, Gravity Entertainment, Selym and Urban Box Office.

Eight years ago, Marlo relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. The change of scenery has allowed her to learn the Midwest market even more while maintaining solid relationships nationally. Currently, she is the Ohio Valley and West Coast Regional for Kedar Entertainment, the home of R&B greats Joe, Chico Debarge and Algebra.

Marlo is also developing another natural talent, her unique voice. (Anyone who's ever spoken to Marlo remembers her inviting pitch and unique tone.) Marlo is an on-air personality for WCCD-Cleveland (Gospel and Christian Formats) www.radio1000.org on Saturdays and Sunday mornings. For her voice-over work, she is currently represented by the Ciao Agency and Sizzle Productions.

The TRUTH Awards ‘08: Giving Recognition While Raising Awareness

From The Desk of Carl West

Chicago, Illinois- October 20, 2008- Hello Chicago and supporters of the yearly hip hop/R&B awards. The TRUTH Awards has been actively highlighting the best and brightest of Chicago, and it has been thus far the only award ceremony of its kind to honor and salute Chicago's emerging artist in various of categories.

After careful review and evaluation of the format of The TRUTH Awards, it's to the best interest from a business and logistical stand point that we change the present format to one that will better serve the interest of Chicago and it's commited sponsors.

I've been very proud of the support and love the award show has recieved over the last eight years, and I hope that the show continues to build on it's legacy. I will do everything in my power from a business point of view to continue the show, but to also attract the new emerging market of young and fresh hip hop heads who are looking to swagger their way to hip hop stardom from the Chi.

The new format will not consist of an open to everyone event. The TRUTH Awards Gala, as it will be called will only be produced for the winners of each catogory, special invited guest and tickets/table consumers. The winners will be notified in advance and will have a secured table for their friends, family and supporters to celebrate their victory.

The TRUTH Awards Gala will focus and raise funds for TRUTH 4 Literacy after school mentor program and Hip Hop Against H.I.V. awareness campaign, both founded by MG Media to bring much needed attention to the needs of our community.

Reading, writing and communication skills are lacking amongst some of our youth in the industry and AIDS is growing rapidly within the hip hop generation. And with the financial support of corporate partners like American Family Insurance, RX Chicago (Chicago Department of Public Health), Basauh (Illinois Department of Public Health), Walk Wireless/U.S. Cellular, South Side Community Federal Credit Union, PHLI, The TRUTH magazine, and other generous sponsors, The TRUTH Awards Gala will help shine a light in dark places in the coming years.

The performance part of the show will change as well. There will not be 10 - 12 acts, 5 artists will be carefully chosen to perform at the gala. There will be a fashion show produced exclusively by Johnny Fresh, one of the city's hottest young versitale talents to emerge since Sean Mac. I'm proud to have him on my team. As I move forward in my business, I'm looking to recruit young new bloods who can help my brand continue it's growth as they begin their journey in this tough and cut throat industry. Young Hustlers is the name of my team of 17 - 25 year old street bangers, and you will see these hustlers every where come next spring of 2009.

This is how it's going down at the yearly love fest until further notice. I only hope that all the real Chicago representers will support the winners and show that this city and every starving artists can not only swag on him or herself, but give swagger love to competitors and counterparts.

The new date for the award show gala will be announced soon and the winners will be posted on this and other sites this week. Thanks to all the nominees and continue to work hard and build your business, because there are some hungry young stunnas who are looking to take over this city and Barack has inspired them to change the game. Peace, one love and I'm Carl West. Holla back!
